Synopsis:

In this week’s segment we discuss student protests by Black and brown youth in France against austerity measures and race based inequality in the education system. But we begin with a discussion about the Brazilian presidential election, where incumbent president Lula da Silva came in second place to conservative Flavio Bolsonaro in the first round of the election, which will be decided in an October 25th run off between the two men.

Today we are discussing Brazil’s presidential election. Incumbent president Lula da Silva came in a close second to Flavio Bolsonaro. As neither man received at least 50% of the vote there will be a run-off election on October 25 which will decide who will be that country’s next president. Our guest is Robert Wilson who is in Brazil. He has a unique perspective as a Black American, born, raised and educated in the United States, a philosopher and an investor in private equity and venture capital. Has lived and worked in Brazil for over twenty years. And he joins us from Rio de Janeiro to provide analysis.

Recently students across France have engaged in mass protests, there have been hundreds of arrests, schools closed and injuries of protesters. Our guest will help us understand these events. Annick Metefia is joining us from Paris. She is a member of the Afrofeminist Collective Mwasi and will give us insights on these protests.
