In this week’s segment we discuss organizers in Washington DC who have developed a transit solidarity program to oppose transit fare crackdowns that criminalize poverty. But we begin with a discussion of Yemen, and the increasing success of Ansar Allah against aggression from Saudi Arabia and the U.S.

Dr. Shireen Al-Adeimi is an associate professor in the department of teacher education, in the college of education at Michigan State University. In addition to being an educator, she provides commentary and analysis on Yemen, her homeland. Yemen has been under U.S. and Saudi since 2015, under the direction of presidents Obama, Trump, Biden, and Trump again. Now the forces of Ansar Allah, generally referred to as Houthis, but we’ll say Ansar Allah, who have recently gained ground in an offensive against Saudi backed mercenaries.

Pan-African Community Action (PACA) recently released a Transit Solidarity Plan for Washington DC that challenges DC fare evasion crack downs by collecting and redistributing fare cards to residents in the Southeast community of the district. The district and WMATA claim fare evasion is hurting revenue needed to finance the metro, yet they spend millions on a crackdown. PACA is holding a People’s Assembly in Southeast on September 27 where residents can make direct decisions on issues that affect them. Oliver Robinson of PACA provides analysis.
