AN OLDIE BUT GOODIE MAY 05, 2013 CINCO DE MAYO!

Okay, today you can switch to Dos Equis as Cinco De Mayo comes to THE GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO tonight at 7pm on WBAI 99.5 FM and streaming live over wbai.org.
But first, it's the conclusion of the Belle Siddon saga on FRONTIER GENTLEMAN starring John Dehner #31 "The Last of Belle Siddon" CBS Sept 07, 1958.

Then, three tales of Mexico from ESCAPE, QUIET PLEASE, and Orson Welles.

In 1942 Orson Welles went to South America to make a film (which never happened) but it launched the radio series HELLO AMERICANS. It was designed to promote good feelings among allies against the Nazis in WWII. Each show featured a different country south of the border. Today we will hear #8 from January 10, 1943 "Mexico". With Orson Welles, Hans Conried, Lou Merrill, Laird Cregar, Agnes Moorehead, Ray Collins, Lucien Moraweck (composer), Lud Gluskin (conductor).

With our social studies out of the way, we can get down to some action on ESCAPE from CBS on Feb 18, 1951 "The Follower" starring Bill Conrad. He goes to Mexico on the trail of his missing wife. We apologize in advance for the characterization of the Mexican hotel clerk. Also starring Georgia Ellis, Lou Krugman, Virginia Gregg, Harry Bartell, Don Diamond, and Sidney Miller. Patrick Quentin (writer), Roy Rowan (announcer), Norman Macdonnell (director), Les Crutchfield (adaptor), Del Castillo (composer, conductor). The show was replaced the following week by two crappy-sounding quiz shows, but returned in July.

Finally QUIET PLEASE, the classic fantasy and horror series from the pen of Wyllis Cooper. From July 26, 1948 on Mutual "The Man Who Stole A Planet". An archeologist finds a strange globe in Mexican ruins. Ernest Chappell stars, with Hilda Palmer, real newsman Phil Tonken, and organist Albert Buhrman.
