REBECCA GIBB VINTAGE CRIME
Rebecca Gibb, an award-winning wine journalist, a history and politics graduate, became one of only 382 Masters of Wine in the world in 2015. In a record class of 24 graduates, she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award and the Bollinger Medal in recognition of outstanding tasting ability. Accordng to Gibb, "Wine fraud rarely makes the headlines. When it does, the wine world shouts that ‘something must be done!’ and then immediately drops its guard.
In VINTAGE CRIME: A Short History of Wine Fraud Rebecca Gibb reminds us that wine fraud is as old as wine itself, and perhaps less escapable than most of us would care to admit. Gibb examines the evolution of wine regulations and tackles the philosophical interdependence between the authentic and the fake, all while invoking Richard Nixon and The Simpsons.
Join us on this installment of Leonard Lopate at Large when Gibb delves into devious practices stretching back to Roman times and the rogues gallery of fraudsters whose stories belong as much in a detective novel as in an absorbing wine book, on this installment of Leonard Lopate at Large.
