JOHN HERSEY'S "HIROSHIMA" - A PACIFICA DRAMATIZATION

Seventy-eight years ago this month, the United States shocked the world with the first, and thus far only use of nuclear weapons when bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Housing Notebook proudly presents the Pacifica network’s original radio adaptation of John Hersey’s Hiroshima, in a special fundraiser for WBAI. Originally published in The New Yorker magazine in 1946 and featuring six survivors, Hersey’s account put a human face on the horrors the bomb inflicted.  The radio adaptation with Ruby Dee, Tyne Daly, and Roscoe Lee Brown, among others, is a great example of the extraordinary work of Pacifica.

Produced by Brian DeShazor and Mark Torres, inassociation with Artists United and The Feminist Majority. Adapted for radio by John Valentine. Directed by Michael Haney. Music by MarkSnow.

Tune and there will be an opportunity to call in and share your thoughts as well.
