HOWDY DOODY, THE FAT MAN, GUNSMOKE
Tonight, November 27, 2022 at 8 PM EST, we salute our November 27 birthday boys J Scott Smart (b. 1902) and Buffalo Bob Smith (b. 1917), right after our weekly episode of GUNSMOKE. Tune in to WBAI-NY 99.5 FM, or listen to the stream at wbai.org for THE GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO, produced by Max Schmid.
GUNSMOKE from CBS on May 28, 1955 #163 "Cow Doctor” for L & M. Ben Pitcher, a man who hates doctors, sends for Doc Adams to tend his sick cow. Tragedy follows. Starring William Conrad, Parley Baer, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, John Dehner, Sam Edwards, Vivi Janis, written by John Meston, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell, music by Rex Koury, SFX by Tom Hanley & Bill James, announcer George Walsh.
HOWDY DOODY TIME from NBC on Aug 16, 1952. The program is about "the sea," starting with "Anchors Aweigh." This is inexplicably followed by "Ciribiribin" played on the organ and celeste. The celeste player seems to be playing "Roll Out The Barrel" at the same time. The Doodacratic Party is holding a convention to nominate its candidate for president. The tape editing on this program sounds OK for kids in 1952, but it's obvious and clumsy. Buffalo Bob asks, "Zabby, The Two-Headed Martian" about flying saucers. Zabby replies that back on Mars, Mrs. Zabby makes lousy coffee and throws the saucer. Howdy Doody "Problem Of The Week": "My sister likes green but I like blue best." No mention is made of Clarabelle on the program. Bob Smith, Dayton Allen, Judy Tyler.
THE FAT MAN from ABC on Feb 11, 1946 #4 "The Twice Told Secret" for O'Sullivan Rubber Heels. Rita Morgan has postponed her marriage twice, but why? Starring J. Scott Smart as Brad Runyon, Ed Begley, created by Dashiell Hammett, produced by Charles Powers, music by Bernard Green, announcer Gene Kirby.
