GUNSMOKE from CBS on Nov 27, 1954 #137 "Cooter" for L & M. Kitty mentions that she plans on staying at the Long Branch "for a while.' Ben Sisle uses a hired gun and then simple-minded Cooter Smith to be his bodyguard. Starring William Conrad, Parley Baer, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, Vic Perrin, John Dehner, Harry Bartell, written by John Meston, directed by Norman Macdonnell, music by Rex Koury, sound patterns by Ray Kemper & Tom Hanley, announcer George Walsh.
LIGHTS OUT from NBC on April 17, 1935 “A Room for the Night.” Is this the first network broadcast?? It sounds terrible, but it's new to me, and I hope to you too! Written by Wyllis Cooper, if the date is correct.
ARTHUR LAKE was Dagwood Bumdtead on the radio version of the long-running comic strip BLONDIE. Need I say more?
JOAN LORRING was born in Hong Kong. Her family fled Hong Kong in 1937 following the Japanese invasion in 1937 at the start of World War II, traveling by boat to Honolulu, and then landing in San Francisco. Soon after, they moved to Los Angeles and Madeleine (known by her nickname "Dellie") began working as a child actress in radio and film – she was credited as "Dellie Ellis" when she played the title role in the radio program A Date With Judy in 1942. She eventually adopted Joan Lorring as her stage name.
THEATRE FIVE from ABC on June 02, 1965 #218 "Noose Of Pearls." A woman puts up with her impossible aunt for 14 years, hoping some day to inherit her fabulous pearls. A superb performance by Joan Lorring! Margaret Hamilton, Joan Lorring, Ralph Camargo, Luis Van Rooten, George Petrie, Winifred Wolfe, music composed by Ralph Herman, conducted by Glenn Osser, script editor Jack C. Wilson, directed by Warren Somerville, exec producer Lee Bowman, announcer Fred Foy.
And no year would be complete without our annual broadcast of QUIET PLEASE from ABC on April 17, 1949 #96 “The Shadow of the Wings,” in which writer Wyllis Cooper skillfully blends the meaning of both Easter and Passover into one amazing story! A little girl lays dying, and she sees a dark stranger near her bed, a figure with wings! Grab a box of Kleenex, because you'll need it before this one is over! One of my favorite stories EVER!!! Starring Ernest Chappell ("the man who spoke to you"), Cecile Roy, Bess Thompson, William Marshall, organ by Albert Buhrman, and host, writer and director Wyllis Cooper.
