DELAWARE RIVER FRACKING BAN IS PERMANENT!
Today's show is about an important victory — it was an intense battle, first to get a moratorium on fracking by the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) in 2010, then in the 11 years since to get a permanent ban! All 4 states (N.Y., N.J., Penn., Del.) voted for the ban, though Biden’s Army Corps of Engineers representative did not.
Over the years, environmental groups sent 1000s of letters and collected even more petition signatures; organizaions included Clearwater, NJ Sierra Club, Food & Water Watch, Delaware Riverkeeper, and many more across the region. A major celebration is in order—and yet, the DRBC left open the regulation of fracking wastewater and water export for fracking. They have until September to draft those regulations, when another public comment period opens; so yes we celebrate, but then must stay vigilant to ensure that those regulations are actually bans... and close any loopholes.
