ANIMAL BONDS: PAUL BOCHNER AND KURT SASS
On Sunday, October 11, at 9 AM ET, join WBAI 99.5 FM hosts Jeff Simmons and Erin Clarke on Animal Matters for two conversations about the powerful connections animals form with people, and the trust, purpose and healing those relationships can bring.
In the first half, author and artist Paul Bochner discusses his new book, Penelope: A Love Story, the true story of an injured, apparently abandoned fawn who began visiting his Hudson Valley home. Bochner offered care while allowing Penelope to remain wild and free, and a remarkable bond developed. We will explore what she taught him about love, animal emotion and the responsibilities that accompany human compassion.
In the second half, Kurt Sass, Pet Access Coordinator at Community Access, joins us to discuss how pets can support mental health, recovery and connection. Community Acces’s Pet Access program helps tenants living with mental health concerns adopt and care for pets while making responsible pet ownership more affordable. In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Kurt will share what the program has meant for tenants and the animals they have welcomed into their lives.
