FORMER NYC MEMBER CARLOS MENCHACA ON HIS NEW ROLE
Former New York City Council Member Carlos Menchaca returns to City Watch on WBAI 99.5 FM NY, this time as our featured guest.
On Thursday, September 24, at 5:00 p.m. ET, Carlos joins host Jeff Simmons live in the WBAI studio to discuss his new role as Director of the Collaborative Governance Academy at re:power. The Academy brings elected officials, government staff and movement leaders together to strengthen collaborative governance and build public institutions that are more responsive to the communities they serve. Since its founding in 2019, it has trained more than 2,700 leaders across 46 states.
Carlos will talk about what he learned during two terms representing Brooklyn in the City Council, how local officials can govern effectively amid federal funding threats and attacks on immigrant communities, and why rebuilding trust between government and community organizations matters now. We'll also catch up with Carlos, a former City Watch co-host, and hear what this new chapter means to him.
