On Christmas day, Thursday, Dec 25, 11-11:55 , join Joy of Resistance for an Irreverent Feminist Christmas Special

On Christmas Day, Joy of Resistance will take an irreverent and humorous look at various aspects of Christmas and some of its mythology and underlying assumptions about women.

Through music, comedy, interviews and commentary, we’ll explore such topics as:

DO feminists 'have a sense of humor'? We'll start out with the parodic song "Feminists Don't Have a Sense of Humor" by Nellie McKay which takes on the myth that Second Wave Feminism was humorless! (see cartoon above, which reflected an actual ACTION dreamed up an carried out by these femininsts, who on Christmas would hang a sign or banner on a Church Creche (figurines of Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, the Infant) that proudly announced "It's A Girl!"

We'll try to answer the question: WHO does the work of the holidays? (hint: it’s NOT the elves!) We’ll air some spontaneous and startled  interviews we did with holiday shoppers at Macy’s Department Store, in which participants were asked who, mostly, did the work involved in their family's holiday celebrations (and who did the clean-up!), women or men?

AND what happened when a Dutch TV crew disguised Christian Bibles with false title-covers announcinng that the book was the Koran -- and read particularly bloodthirsty and sexist passages from the Christian Bible to people whom they stopped in the street and who were told they were hearing passages from the Koran. A revealing expose of religious prejudice!

We'll present a sound collage parody on how the Hobby Lobby Franchise is trying to teach us hobbyists--who may no longer have access to birth control (because of them (!), especially if they work at Christian-owned  companies that don't think their female emplyees should have access to birth control through their company insurance) -- how to construct our very own IUD’s out of Hobby Lobby materials such as pipe cleaners and glitter!

And–DID Jesus have a baby sister???? We'll play the great Dory Previn song by that name!

PLUS Special Guest: Therese Schechter, Director of “How to Lose Your Virginity”. We’ll talk about the Cult of the Virgin (Mary) and virginity today–and how the two connect–and continue to affect our lives.
