CLIMATE ACTION IN THE STREETS

Educating yourself, listening to the radio, isn't the only way to fight climate change. On this show we're taking it to the streets with two groups that are doing just that. As you know there have been a series of major national protests during this administration. The protests coming up this week focus on environmental as well as other issues.

On this episode of Eco-Logic, we will give information on events in and around the listening area. This show will be packed with things you can do! The United Nations Climate Week is coming up. For years, corporations have been trying to use it to greenwash themselves, but there are still grassroots groups involved and actually doing the work.--educating, organizing, activating--and we have two of them on this show.

UPROSE is a community-based organization that advocates for climate justice and sustainability in Sunset Park and beyond. Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of UPROSE, has built an organization focused on community and the environmental justice that Sunset Park residents needed most when she joined the civil-rights organization 30 years ago. Graham Zimmerman is the Director of Athlete Alliance at Protect Our Winters, which was founded by a professional snowboarder who was concerned about the future of his sport in a warming world. Graham runs the athlete ambassador program at POW and is a professional climber and climate advocate. Wait'll you hear his K2 mountain-climbing story!

We open the show with news: the anniversary of a major political movement, climate actions in the nation’s capital, NJ NESE pipeline testimony, and an increased likelihood of Atlantic Ocean current collapse.

A live performance by the Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, and many more of “Takin’ It to the Streets” is our song for this show.
