MILTON BERLE, GUNSMOKE, DIMENSION X, MORE!
Tonight, June 15, 2025, from 8 to 10 pm, it's Father's Day, but as usual nobody seems to know what to get Dad for his day! So we have a variety of programs I have been saving up for an occasion like this. Of course we begin with weekly episode of GUNSMOKE.
Tune in to WBAI-NY 99.5 FM at 8pm, or listen to the stream at wbai.org for THE GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO, produced by Max Schmid.
GUNSMOKE from CBS (via the AFRTS) on July 21, 1957 #276 "Kitty Caught.” The Karp brothers rob the bank in Dodge and take Kitty with them as a hostage. This is the fifth of five "favorite" shows being re-run at the "request" of listeners. With William Conrad, Parley Baer, Howard McNear, Georgia Ellis, John Dehner, Lawrence Dobkin, Joseph Du Val, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell, written by John Meston, SFX by Tom Hanley & Bill James, announcer George Walsh.
SO YOU THINK IT'S NEW from Transamerican Broadcasting and Television Corporation syndication in 1938 for The Gruen Watch Company. An audition program. Dr. Wilfred J. Funk (of Funk and Wagnalls) tells stories to demonstrate that "There's nothing new under the sun." Dr. Funk slips when he mentions that Hammurabi's tax reforms as happening 40,000 years ago (it was closer to 4000 years ago). The invention of unbreakable glass...in ancient Rome. Announcer Len Sterling.
IT'S MURDER from the Blue net on Aug 10, 1944 #1 for The National Safety Council (limerick contest). A short "artistic" whodunit with safety tips. Starring Parker Fennelly, written by Stedman Coles.
STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE from NBC on Dec 09, 1939 for Quaker Cereals. An enjoyable and funny show! The band plays "In The Mood," using an arrangement that sounds just like Glenn Miller's, but at a faster tempo. Senator Ford, Harry Hershfield and Jay C. Flippen are referred to as "The Gagbusters." Host: Milton Berle, with Senator Ford, Harry Hershfield, Jay C. Flippen, Vincent Travers and His Orchestra, announcer Dan Seymour.
DIMENSION X from NBC on Aug 25, 1950 #21 "The Parade" for Wheaties. A genuine Martian hires an advertising agency to publicize a parade. The Martians are coming! Host Norman Rose, starring Joseph Curtin, Berry Kroeger, Alexander Scourby, John McGovern, Agnes Young, Jack Grimes, Joseph Julian, Edwin Jerome, written by George Lefferts, produced by Van Woodward, directed by Edward King, announcer Bob Warren.
