ORSON WELLES, HERMIT'S CAVE, JEAN SHEPHERD-COCKROACHES
This Wednesday overnight, May 28 into 29 from 12 to 2 am in THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY, it's the fourth show at our new day and time! Jimmy Dore will be heard at 2am.
We have another THIS IS MY BEST with Orson Welles, a return visit to the old Hermit in his cave, and yet another lost episode of JEAN SHEPHERD from May 29, 1969 from the Zirul Collection "Cockroach Racing." The program is heard on WBAI-NY 99.5 FM and on the stream at wbai.org.
THIS IS MY BEST from CBS on April 24, 1945 #33 "Anything Can Happen" by George & Helen Papashvily for Cresta Blanca. A comedy about Giorgi, from Georgia (in the USSR), who emigrates to America during the Depression. After the story, Orson announces (again) that next week's play will be, "Don't Catch Me," with Rita Hayworth. It was not. A story of that name was never broadcast on this series. Producer, host and performer Orson Welles, with Peg La Centra, Konstantine Shayne, Edgar Barrier, adapted by Robert Tallman, music by Bernard Katz, announcer Verne Smith.
THE HERMIT'S CAVE from WJR, Detroit origination, AFRS rebroadcast o April 30, 1944. #380 "Mr. Randall's Discovery". AFRS program name is "Mystery Playhouse." Mr. Randall is the vice-president of a small-town bank who likes to experiment in his spare time, down in the basement. An amoeba he took from stagnant water, grows to the size of a cantaloupe and develops eyes! It keeps on growing and becomes indescribable. The AFRS fill drama has been deleted, the story is complete. AFRS host Peter Lorre.
