ARCH OBOLER, RAY BRADBURY, JEAN SHEPHERD-KID TALENTS

This Tuesday overnight, Jan 07 into 08, from 1 to 3 am in THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY, another LIGHTS OUT from Arch Oboler, a spectacular Ray Bradbury story on SUSPENSE, and another not exactly lost JEAN SHEPHERD episode from the Alan Kalish Collection: “Special Kid Talents' aka “Folk Talents” from Jan 08, 1973. The program is heard on WBAI-NY 99.5 FM and on the stream at wbai.org.

LIGHTS OUT from CBS on Feb 16, 1943 #20 "Oxychloride X” (aka “The Hole”) for Ironized Yeast, Molle Shaving Cream. A young crackpot college student invents the universal solvent, with of course nothing to keep it in! Written & hosted by Arch Oboler, announcer Frank Martin.

SUSPENSE from CBS on July 12, 1955 "Kaleidoscope" by Ray Bradbury. After a space ship explodes, the surviving crew members have a last conversation as they drift to their deaths. A well-done version of a sci-fi classic. This Ray Bradbury story first appeared in Thrilling Wonder Stories in 1949. Its first radio version was on Dimension X in 1951. Despite the uniqueness of the play and the nature of the staging, and the presence of a six-year-old actor, this show was broadcast live, with no prerecorded segments. By today’s standards, that would seem to be astonishing.

The sound of this episode is excellent. For many years, collectors had unsatisfying recordings with much noise, narrow range, and other problems. Some 1970s collectors, however, had access to a personal 15ips reel that Antony Ellis had for himself. It is exceptional.

The cast:
William Conrad as Hollis, Howard McNear as Lespere, Stacy Harris as Applegate, Parley Baer as Stone, John Dehner as the Captain, Sam Edwards as Stimson, Georgia Ellis as Mother, Jonathan Ellis as Sonny.

Adapter, producer, director Antony Ellis, music composed by Rene Garriguenc, conducted by Wilbur Hatch, announcer Larry Thor.
