THE SHADOW, THEATRE FIVE, CHICKENMAN, LOST SHEP!!
This Tuesday overnight, August 06 into 07 from 1 to 3am in THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY, another Arch Oboler SHADOW script for Orson Welles, Our first taste in The Dustbin of THERATRE FIVE, which turned 60 this week, a little satire with a promo record for CHICKENMAN from 1966, and another lost episode of JEAN SHEPHERD from Thursday July 14, 1966 “Practical Jokes.” The program is heard on WBAI-NY 99.5 FM and on the stream at wbai.org.
Last week we revealed that Arch Oboler wrote three scripts for the Orson Welles version of The Shadow! Well, here's the second one!
THE SHADOW via syndication on Aug 14 1938 #21 “The Hospital Murders” for B.F. Goodrich Tires. While visiting Egypt, Lamont Cranston is asked to solve a mystery. Patients keep disappearing from a hospital. A grisly story. Even though it was set in Cairo, the program generated a number of complaints from the medical profession. An apology was broadcast on September 25, 1938. Starring Orson Welles as Lamont Cranston, Margot Stevenson as Margo Lane, Alan Devitt, Arthur Vinton, Dwight Weist, written by Arch Oboler, produced and directed by F. Bourne Ruthrauff, organist Rosa Rio, announcer Ken Roberts.
THEATRE FIVE from ABC net on Jan 19, 1965 #122 "Across The River From Grandma's House." Young Penelope brings an escaped convict to Grandma's house, deep in the forest. Would you like a cup of tea? Written by Leonard Stad, with Ethel Remey, Ralph Bell, Evie Juster, Norman Rose, produced and directed by Warren Somerville, audio engineers Neal Pultz & Marty Folia, sound effects by Ed Blainey, script editor Jack C. Wilson, music composed by Alexander Vlas-Daczenco, conducted by Glenn Osser, exec producer Ted Bell, announcer Fred Foy. Big thanks to Joe Webb and the entire team of Old Time Radio Researchers who worked on, an have just released, the 60th anniversary set of the series.

CHICKENMAN Promo recording to break into new syndication markets in 1966. A cleverly written parody on the "Batman" craze of the period. Written by and starring Dick Orkin, with Jane Roberts, and Jim Runyon (announcer). Big thanks to David Lennick for sharing via his Facebook page Lennick's Lacquers.
