A very special fund-drive "ecologically-friendly" mix, including segments from National Geographic's "Six Degrees: Could
Change The World", completely bio-degradable clips from "The 11th Hour", commentary from Alec Baldwin, Allen Ginsberg, Al Gore, Leonardo DeCaprio, Stephen Hawking, Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Peterson, Paul Simonon, Rachel Carson, James Hansen, plus music from Arcade Fire, I-Cube, Matmos, Black Mighty Orchestra, The Byrds, Electroslide, Elvis Costello, Dooley Wilson, Henry Mancini, Cat Stevens, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Gabin, The Police, Victoria Williams and many others - on a "Shortcut To Oblivion"
(available for a $50 contribution to WBAI).
As NASA climate scientist James Hansen cautions, even two degrees Celsius
represents a tipping point (from which there is no return). Based on Mark
Lynas's Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet and narrated by Alec
Baldwin, the program roams from the bushfire-ravaged suburbs of Southern
Australia to the drought-stricken farmlands of Nebraska to the rapidly
melting glaciers of Greenland. In the process, aerospace engineers, marine
biologists, and ordinary citizens share their experiences and predictions.
"Six Degrees: Could Change The World"- (DVD---$75)
On Wednesday April 16th and Thursday April 17th WBAI pre-empted most programming all day to air a repeat broadcast of Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan. This featured testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.
The four-day Winter Soldier event brought together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists gave context to the testimony. These panels covered everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.
Whether you're participating in a radio program or committee meeting, you'll need to contact us in advance. The landlord requires photo ID and pre-registration for entry into the building.
Please call our switchboard at 212-209-2800, weekdays between 9am and 1pm or 2pm and 5pm, and give the receptionist your name as shown on your ID and the purpose of your visit.
Thanks for your continued support.
