On Wednesday, January 31, 2018, From the Soundboard will honor the conguero (congo player) from Cuba which, percussionist and music historian Bobby Sanabria described the artist "as one who always represented the close ties that Cuban music has to West Africa".  He was born Ramon Santamaría Rodríguez, but the world knew him as Mongo Santamaria and he would've been 100 in April 2017.
