As ICE Raids Nearly One Hundred 7-Eleven Stores in Pre-Dawn
Nationwide Sweep, California Unions Resist Trump’s Anti-Immigrant
Actions

Thousands participate in Free the People Immigration March to protest ICE
California unions are moving to protect undocumented workers and immigrants
against attacks from the Trump regime. They are vigorously supporting AB450,
a bill introduced by state Rep. David Chiu, D-San Francisco, which would, if
passed, give undocumented immigrants “affirmative protections” against
indiscriminate raids by agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement
agency (ICE). And then they darned their armor, after learning agents from the
Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement would be visiting a
7-Eleven store in Koreatown to conduct interviews and an audit, and decided to
stage a protest outside of the store, holding signs that read, “Immigrants are
welcome here.” ICE raided close to one hundred 7-Eleven stores nation-wide,
including five in Los Angeles. While people were arrested in other states,
none were arrested in Southern California, however ICE issued a statement
saying there were would be more raids to come.

ICE in “Full Court Press” Against Immigrants’ Rights
Legal and community advocates take to the streets in protest over ICE
trolling for people to deport in the city courts
Brooklyn defense attorneys took the lead protesting after the latest immigration
arrest at the borough's criminal courts, after plainclothes Immigration and
Customs Enforcement officers arrested Genaro Rojas-Hernandez inside, after
he appeared before a judge on a misdemeanor charge. Protesters marched
outside the courthouse chanting "ICE-free NYC" and "Hell no, ICE must go."
ICE arrests in New York City's courthouses have skyrocketed this year under
Trump. "The court should be a safe place for people to exercise their due
process rights to respond to the allegations against them," Adrienne Wells, a
Legal Aid defense attorney who attended the protest said.
Meanwhile, in our declared “sanctuary city” The Office of Court Administration,
the state agency that oversees the courthouses, allows ICE agents to arrest
immigrants inside courts. ICE arresting Rojas-Hernandez in court "denied due
process for both victim and defendant" in the case. "Such actions deter victims
from reporting abuse and threaten public safety," said District Attorney Eric
Gonzalez in a statement. "I join our public defenders in calling on ICE to
reconsider their misguided policy and stop conducting enforcement raids in
courthouses."

Trump Stomps on Palestinians, Settling on Building to Quickly Move
Embassy to Jerusalem, while using Cuts to Food and Education Aid to
further Starve Palestinian Rights
with
Richard Falk, professor emeritus of international law and practice at
Princeton University, the former United Nations Human Rights
Rapporteur in the Occupied Territories and the author or co-author of
more than 20 books, including Chaos and Counterrevolution: After
the Arab Spring.
Why declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel is so controversial
The Trump administration has settled on a location for the new U.S.
embassy in Jerusalem and plans to move into the facility by 2019. The State
Department has decided to retrofit an existing U.S. consular facility in the
West Jerusalem neighborhood of Arnona, which sits near the Green Line,
the de facto border of Israel before the 1967 war. Trump's recognition last
month of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and plans to relocate the embassy
there inflamed tensions in the region and sparked outrage across the world.
Both Israelis and the Palestinians claim Jerusalem as their historic capitals.
The announcement was condemned by 128 countries in a United Nations
General Assembly vote in December.
This prompted Trump to announce it would freeze $65 million in funding to
the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. The
agency has become a frequent target of criticism from him. The decision
to withhold funds from the agency drew sharp criticism from Palestinian
leaders, who said, "food, and education is not a bargaining chip but a US
and international obligation." But, That’s precisely what the U.S. did and
went a step further announcing it would be freezing an additional $45 million
in funding to the UN agency, bringing the total that could be withheld from it
to potentially $110 million. Officials from the UN agency called it "the most
dramatic financial crisis" in its 70-year history. The U.S. provides
approximately 30 percent of the UN agency's $1.4 billion budget.
