PUERTO RICO, JUAN GONZALEZ ON DE BLASIO & RACE CRISIS

Stay tuned as we update you on the Post-Hurricane Maria tragedy that has beset the people of Puerto Rico.

Juan Gonzalez in his new book “Reclaiming Gotham Bill de Blasio and the Movement to End America’s Tale of Two Cities” Gonzalez writes “De Blasio’s election heralded the advent of the most progressive New York City government in generations. Not since the legendary Fiorello La Guardia in the 1930s had so many populist candidates captured government office at the same time. Gotham, in other words, had been suddenly reclaimed in the name of its people.”

With the recent barrage of racially motivated killings the need for clarity surrounding the significance of race and racism in the U.S. is more pressing than ever. George Yancy Professor of Philosophy at Emory University and author of 18 books joins Howard in unveiling his latest effort titled “On Race” 34 Conversations in a Time of Crisis.” A collection of interviews on race with thinkers like bell hooks, Judith Butler, Cornel West, Noam Chomsky, Kwame Anthony Appiah, and Peter Singer among others.
