May Day began in the U.S. in 1886 as a nationwide general strike, led
by immigrant workers, fighting for the 8 hour work day.  And, this May Day
in cities across the country immigrant and low-wage workers are playing
the most prominent role in its celebration and continuing the good fight
for workers’ rights. For many years May Day was ignored by U.S. unions
despite being celebrated worldwide. But this year May Day is back in
force in this country in which it was born.
        
So, we’ll build bridges to all the May Day protests, with live coverage
from Chicago's International Workers Day rally.  Then, from the
convergences in New York and California, and the “right to work states”
of the South we’ll travel to Puerto Rico, Brazil, and S. Africa  to explore
May Day in the age of Trump, where the contradictions of capital are
coming to a head.  There’s a war on the workers!
 
While much of the media has focused on how the ruling elite has
criminalized and scapegoated immigrants we’ll change the narrative
and bring you the voices of those who cross borders for survival. We’ll
set the record straight as to who are the real criminals, forcing the
migration of the world’s people from their homelands and who are
the builders of the world’s societies.
