Host Tiokasin Ghosthorse talks with two guests during this edition of “First Voices Radio.” His guest in the first half-hour is Ofelia Rivas. Ofelia is an elder and activist from the Tohono O'odham Nation. She is the Founder of O'odham Voice Against the Wall. Tiokasin’s guest in the second half-hour is Aaron Payment, who is serving his second term as Chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians in Michigan. Chairman Payment has been prominently quoted in several recent news articles recently about the "Enbridge 5," aging twin pipelines that carry 540,000 barrels of  oil and natural gas daily through the Straits of Mackinac in the Great Lakes. In 2010, these pipelines were part of a system that burst and dumped 840,000 gallons of oil into Talmadge Creek, leading to the Kalamazoo River in Marshall, Michigan, which was the nation's largest inland oil spill. Additional commentary is provided by Kathleen “Kathie” Brosemer (Echota Cherokee, Alabama), Environmental Program Manager, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
