EMBRACING THE CREATIVE

This week on State of the Arts NYC we will talk with Pearl Chin owner of Knitty City and friends Nancy Ricci and Maxine Levinson who supported the PUSSY HAT PROJECT in NYC. These ladies, and yes I mean ladies, started a movement that has caught the world by surprise. How did this all happen? What's next for this fiber art that has repurposed the Women's Movement

The host will be knitting in the studio.

Learn about women impacting social change by visiting the museum exhibition  The Women Who Dismantled Prohibition organized by the Museum of the City of New York. Attend the upcoming Women's Conference at the NY Historical Society.

“The power to show real women, honest, present, complex and complete. Individuals, radiant in their own right. Not stripped of their personhood, or manipulated for a fantasy or metaphor. I like to think the power of lifting the veil from individuals helps to challenge societies darker fetishes and beliefs, perhaps shatter notions of bigotry and stereotypes... One of my greatest joys is working with women who do not usually dwell in this side of their beauty and yet in the work recognize themselves completely, as they are and magnificent.” -Painter Victoria Selbach
