Trump Rescinds DACA
- 09/05/2017 by Linda Perry (WBAI News)

—Donald Trump signaled a phasing out of DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program over the next six months, before it fully expires on March 5, 2018. This came in a tweet at 5:04 am. Trump wrote, "Congress, get ready to do your job - DACA!"  Trump didn’t make the highly anticipated announcement himself. He left it to his Attorney General, former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. The future of Dreamers is now in the hands of Congress, leaving hundreds of thousands of young immigrants, many who know no other home than in the U.S.in limbo, in the pipeline towards deportation.

—Representative Joe Crowley (D-NY), Chair of the House Democratic Caucus said, "Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program would be shocking if it weren’t so predictable from a president who has routinely demonized immigrants, elevated politics above principles, and catered to the most extreme voices in his party. Given that today’s action comes after President Trump repeatedly claimed he wanted to help these young people, all Americans should realize how empty his promises are when compared to the reality of his political interests."
