Domestic Surveillance: Watching the Watchers
- New York 08/15/2012 by Andrea Sears (WBAI)

Last week Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly unveiled a new data collection and analysis system they call the Domain Awareness System.  Developed by the NYPD and Microsoft, the Domain Awareness System is being called a “crime fighting tool”.  But in fact it doesn’t track crime or criminals, it tracks everything and everybody.  To fight back against pervasive surveillance of innocent citizens, the Washington DC based Partnership for Civil Justice Fund has launched a new interactive website, BigBrotherAmerica.org, to watch the watchers.  WBAI's Andrea Sears spoke with Carl Messineo, legal director of the Partnership, who says the Domain Awareness System much more than a simple crime database.
