FREE & CHEAP NYC - Week starting August 8, 2013
- 08/07/2013 by Angela Church & Maayan Schneider, WBAI (WBAI)

MUSIC
Of the many options available, we chose two different gigs on Saturday, August 10th:

August 10: At 1:30 pm, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Presents The 30th Annual Roots of American Music: Martha Redbone Roots Project, Trixie Whitley and Hurray for the Riff Raff. I’m not only recommending this because some of the bands have a banjo – Ms. Redbone sets William Blake poems to music!!

August 10: THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS and MOON HOOCH (sax/clarinet/drums trio, and former subway platform performers!), 7:30 pm at Prospect Park’s Bandshell in Brooklyn.

SUMMER STREETS WALKING TOUR
August 10: Theatrical Walking Tour: The Great Struggle for Cheap Meat is a musical in the streets based on the 1903 Kosher Meat Boycott, led by Lower East Side housewives. The show was composed by Michael Hickey, with the libretto and direction by Ryan Gilliam, and performed by the teen company members of Downtown Art. The performance starts at 11:00 am and admission is free, but advanced registration is required.

FREE: Reservations required due to limited audio equipment
RSVP: info@downtownart.org
