Free +Cheap NYC can be heard on Thursdays on Wake Up Call during the Arts in the Apple segment, 7:30am - 8am, and again at 4:55pm.
TWEEN ACTIVITIES
July 20: 11 am at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens: You can let your tween run on the wild side!
Wild Side Discovery allows your 9-12 year old to uncover creepy and carnivorous plants, and venture into the forest to explore the plants that Native Americans and pioneers depended on to survive. It is free with admission to the garden - Just don't forget the sunblock and bug spray.
FILM
There are many free, open-air screenings in the city this summer, and here are a few. The films usually start at sunset (around 8-8:30 pm), but common wisdom is to get there at least 2 hours early, to settle in. Angela’s recommendation: “Bring a blanket to sit on and always check the grass for sprinklers. Little buggers are on a timer!”
July 19: “ParaNorman” at Hudson Pier 46
July 22: “The African Queen”, Bryant Park
July 24: Best Picture Winner “Argo” at Hudson Pier 63
July 25: DJ Ayres at 6, Short film “Irish Folk Furniture” after the DJ set, and finally "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate" Factory at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
MUSIC
Among many others free offerings -
July 24: At 7:30, there’s a free concert of music from FELA! and How to Survive a Plague at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park (just south of Lincoln Center.)
