SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER WITH CHARLES AND INEZ BARRON

NEW YORK, NY – April 5, 2024 - WBAI 99.5 FM New York is thrilled to announce the launch of a captivating new radio show – Speaking Truth to Power - hosted by former New York State Assemblymembers and New York City Councilmembers Charles and Inez Barron. 

Broadcasting live every Friday from 5 to 6 pm, the program promises to be an insightful addition to WBAI's drivetime lineup,  providing listeners with engaging discussions, expert analysis, and thought-provoking commentary.

Scheduled to launch on Friday, April 12th, the Charles and Inez Barron Show will air on WBAI 99.5 FM in New York City and will also be available for streaming worldwide at WBAI.org. WBAI is part of the Pacifica Foundation, a non-profit organization that pioneered listener-sponsored community radio, and continues to be a beacon for noncommercial, free media since its founding in 1946.

Charles Barron started his political service as a member of the Black Panther Party in the 1960s and The National Black United Front in the 1980s, and then spent more than two decades in public service, as a New York State Assemblymember (2015 to 2021) and as a member of the New York City Council, representing Brooklyn’s 42nd district (2001 to 2013, and 2022 to 2024). Barron earned his B.A. in Sociology from Hunter College. His professional experience includes being the founding member of the East New York-based organization Operation POWER (People Organizing and Working for Empowerment and Respect). 

Inez Barron served as a New York State Assemblymember (2019 to 2013) and New York City Councilmember, representing the 42nd district (2014 to 2021). Barron earned a B.S. in physiology from CUNY-Hunter College and an M.S. in reading and special education from Bank Street College of Education. Her 36 years of professional experience includes working for the New York City Board of Education in various roles, including as a classroom teacher, teacher trainer, early childhood district coordinator, executive assistant to the community superintendent, assistant principal, and principal.
