We’ll be joined by band leader and bassist Boris Kozlov and two of the three artistic directors of Mingus’s Jazz Workshop, Liz Torres and Sarah M. Williams, to discuss the enduring power and musical genius of Charles Mingus and the “mystic unity” of the band that bears his name.
With musical selections from the Mingus repertory: Mingus Quintet plays “Cocktails for Two,” “Peggy’s Blue Skylight” (from newly re-released 1974 album “Mingus at Carnegie Hall”) and Mingus Big Band performing “Meditations on a Pair of Wire Cutters.”
