TEEN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Thursday, September 10, 2015   1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

No, these two topics are not related—yet. Who knows what impact climate change will have on people’s reproductive health? In fact, this Healthstyles program focuses on the involvement of academic leaders in the health professions in bringing attention to the health effects of climate change. On Thursday, September 10, Healthstyles producer Diana Mason, RN, PhD, interviews Eileen Sullivan-Marx, RN, PhD, Dean of the College of Nursing at New York University, about the Obama Administration’s engagement of her and other health professions’ deans in this important environmental and health issue.

But first, Healthstyles explores teen sexuality and challenges all listeners to think about the youth in their lives and how to help them to prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Diana Mason interviews public health nurse Elizabeth Dickson, RN, MSN, about her work on reducing the rates of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. While teen pregnancy rates have declined in recent years, ethnic and economic disparities persist. The impact of unintended pregnancy and STDs on the lives of teens is significant and demands continued work to reduce these rates, using evidence-based strategies and programs.

Healthstyles is sponsored by the Center for Health, Media & Policy at Hunter College, City University of New York.
