A NEW ERA BEGINS IN U.S.-CUBA RELATIONS WITH REOPENING

Thursday, July 30, 2015   7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Sally O'Brien and Margaret Gilpin take a special look at this month’s historic re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba.

Thursday’s program looks back at the July 20th press conference between U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY AND CUBAN FOREIGN MINISTER, BRUNO RODRIGUEZ.

Joining us by telephone will be Cuban-American journalist, ALVARO FERNANDEZ – Editor and Publisher of the Miami-based online newspaper Progreso Weekly.

We will also present excerpts of a recent interview with RAMON LABININO – one of the “Cuban Five” released from U.S. Federal prison on December 17th 2014.

On the same day that he was released, Presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro announced the start of a new era in U.S.- Cuba relations at the Summit of the Americas in Panama City.

Ramon describes that historic day, as it was also the day he returned home to a Cuba that was far different from the one he remembered.

As Always, we begin with news highlights from the island.
