AFRO-BORICUA AND PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE HONOREE DR.

The Jordan Journal will interview one of the true voices of the Afro-Puerto Rican community- Dr. Marta Moreno Vega. The Puerto Rican Day Parade will have a special commemorative theme, “Celebrating Afro-Boricua Heritage”, to coincide with the designation of the next decade as the “International Decade for People of African Descent”, by the United Nations. Amongst the honorees, a pioneer in the struggle to highlight the contributions on Afro-Puerto Ricans, is Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, President and Founder of the Caribbean Cultural Center and co-founder of the Global Afro-Latino and Caribbean Initiative. Dr. Vega is also author of "When the Spirits Dance Mambo: Growing Up Nuyorican in El Barrio" and "The Altar of My Soul: The Living Traditions of Santeria."
