9/18- Last week, the NY state attorney general's Civil Rights Bureau announced that it will monitor the Oct. 28 Hempstead school district (Nassau County, Long Island)special election for one contested seat to ensure the vote's integrity. State Education Commissioner John B. King Jr. informed the Hempstead schools Superintendent he was imposing the oversight because claims of voter fraud forced him to annul one of the results of the election on May 20. This announcement comes as a coalition of groups are getting ready to present an 11-point "People's Platform" at tonight’s school board meeting. I spoke with long-time community activist Sergio Argueta, a coalition member representing the organization Corrider Counts and co-founder of the organization Project Strong Youth about this situation, which he says is emblematic of the public education system across the country. 9/20 - The Indypendent's 200 edition is out, and its focus this month is on the historic march for climate justice scheduled for Sunday, September 21st in NYC. I spoke with the indy newspaper's executive editor John Turleton about the role of the paper in the major events taking place around New York related to climate justice. LISTEN HERE

9/21 - Maira Irigaray, Brazilian Human Rights and Environmental lawyer currently working as the Brazil Program Coordinator for Amazon Watch, joined me on Thursday over WBAI to discuss the Brazilian government's plan to auction more Amazonian Rainforest for the construction of a hydroelectric mega-dam. Indigenous communities are protesting as the world prepares for the People's March for Climate Justice on Sunday. LISTEN HERE

9/22 - Jim Shultz, director of the Democracy Center in Cochabamba, Bolivia and a climate activist, researcher and journalist for over 20 years, speaks with Mario Murillo on WBAI's Morning show about the Center's work promoting social movement struggles in Bolivia and beyond. He places it into the context of this weekend's people's climate justice march which is planned leading up to the UN Summit on climate change. LISTEN HERE
