A soulful, psychedelic mix of rare groove, 70's & 80's reggae, jazz including African and Latin, "alternative" Black music including folk, rock and classical, and showcasing unsigned artists. Interviews have included Arianna Huffington, Gil Scott Heron, Kanye West, Sananda Maitreya (Terrence Trent D'Arby), Avery Brooks and Octavia Butler.
Bio
Andrea Clarke started DJing in 1987 as one of the first female DJs to introduce rare soul, jazz, world music and reggae to the downtown club scene-spinning next to DJ legends Afrika Bambaattaa and Red Alert at Hotel Amazon. She has been obsessively collecting music since elementary school, and became inspired to DJ while living in London in the early 80's. In 1990 she was invited to WBAI by Vicki Starr to co-host her show "Ghosts in the Machine" that highlighted women in music. Then in 1999, "Sister from Another Planet"was born in a nebula far far away...
