WBAI MOURNS PASSING OF PRODUCER NANCY KIRTON
- 01/07/2015

Dear WBAI community,

I'm sad to report that Out-FM co-founder and producer Nancy Kirton died recently following heart surgery. Nancy was a cancer survivor. She'd rejoined the group to help produce last summers LGBT Pride Special. She and I were planning to start another project together editing a memorial segment for Out-FM producer Marle Becker (who died the day after Thanksgiving.)

Nancy was a kind and loving person who cared deeply for the LGBT Community. She was on a public access cable TV show on LGBT issues decades ago. She worked for many years with Identity House, a project that helped LGBT folks come out of the closet. She was also a member of the Committee of Outraged Lesbians (COOL), which existed many years ago. I had the pleasure of working with her on several projects including one on the life of famed playwrite Lorraine Hansberry.

Nancy will be deeply missed.

There is no funeral service planned, there is a visiting/wake at which folds can view the body and pay their last respects. A memorial will be planned at a later date. Info for the visiting/wake is as follows: Ortiz Funeral Home 4425 Broadway NY, NY 10040 212 942-3700 Wed, Jan 7th, 2015 Visiting 3-9pm.
