Brooklyn Museum Now Offers Free Admission to Visitors Age Nineteen and Under Effective September 3, 2014
Beginning on September 3, 2014, admission to the Brooklyn Museum will be free for visitors ages nineteen and under, offering greatly increased accessibility and encouragement to visit the Museum, especially for teenagers.
At the same time, the Museum will increase its suggested general admission fees to $16, except for ticketed exhibitions and events, and to $10 for adults sixty-two and over and for students with valid I.D. Current school group pricing will remain the same.
Admission to Target First Saturdays, the Museum's highly popular monthly evening of art and entertainment that takes place the first Saturday of every month (except in September), will continue to be free from 5 to 11 p.m.
Brooklyn Museum admission, which was last increased in October 2011, has been $12 for adults and $8 for students, and free to visitors under twelve and to Members. Brooklyn Museum Membership offers a wide range of options, from $60 for Individuals through the Brooklynite level at $1,000. Dual Memberships are priced at $90 and Family Memberships at $110.
"I am delighted that we are able to expand our access to younger visitors by increasing free admission for those ages nineteen and under. This younger audience segment represents the future of all museums, and we must do everything possible to make it easier for them to visit. At the same time, the economic reality of inflation makes necessary this modest increase in our suggested admission fees for other audience segments," states Arnold L. Lehman, Shelby White and Leon Levy Director of the Brooklyn Museum.
