FREE & CHEAP NYC - Week starting October 18, 2013
- 10/16/2013 by Angela Church & Maayan Schneider (WBAI)

Welcome to Free & Cheap NYC!! And this week: A Street Fair, Free Skee-Ball, Free Art, and Free Ice-Cream. Who could ask for anything more?

STREET FAIR
We loooooove street fairs, and this week we present the Hester Street Fair :
Every Saturday from 10-6, through October 27th, at the corner of Hester and Essex streets on the Lower East Side.
Housed on the historic grounds of New York City's largest pushcart market at the turn of the century, the Hester Street Fair pays homage to those roots by bringing together a collection of NYC's best vendors in a bustling outdoor marketplace.  You can find fine artisanal food here, vintage clothing, jewelry, crafts, home goods and much more.  In addition, one of the vendors is called “Bite Me Cheesecakes”, which is really all we need to know. Check it out!

Also, on Sunday October 20, The Hester Street Fair and New York magazine are teaming up once again for the 4th Annual Grub Street Food Festival.
Local Restaurants and food vendors offer special menus, give-aways and prizes. There’s also The Grub Street Beer Garden with special interactive gaming, and a Tailgate zone to watch all of the Sunday games and matches, in case the missus wants to shop and the gentleman wants to watch the game – or the other way around! ADMISSION IS FREE and open to the public.

FREE SKEE-BALL!!

You may not know this, but Maayan of Free and Cheap NYC is a huge Skee-Ball fan, so you can imagine our delight upon discovering that Full Circle Bar in Willliamsburg  offers FREE SKEE-BALL every TUESDAY & THURSDAY – you even get FREE Hot Dogs & Jumbo Pretzels!! What’s not to love? It’s like a mini-Coney Island in Williamsburg!

FREE ART
Quilts have long been a part of American heritage and history, but this fall, The American Folk Art Museum is showing "alt_quilts", where three artists use ingenious techniques and unexpected materials such as 16mm film strips or used Tyvek envelopes to create quilts. It looks amazing - and it's free!!

ICE CREAM BOGO
Lastly, on Tuesdays through the end of 2013, Baskin-Robbins offers buy one get one free two-scoop sundaes, which is reason enough to have ice cream in October, we think.
