Pacifica Radio Network Supports Whistleblower Conference onCivil and Human Rights
Over the last seven years members from the Make it SafeCoalition (MISC) have arranged an assembly of whistleblowers in Washington, DCeach year for an annual conference originally known as WashingtonWhistleblower's Week. Federally Employed Women-Legal Education Fund (FEW/LEF)and the USDA Coalition of Minority Employees will co-host this year'sWhistleblower Summit a Civil & Human Rights Conference, taking place July29 - 31.
The public and all whistleblowers and their advocates, aswell as the entire civil rights community are invited to participate. Thisconference theme is Whistleblowing Affects Everyone. From Independent BlackFarmers and USDA employees who report "pink slim" in our food supply,to Air Marshals reporting lax airport security-Whistleblowers Protect People.Gloria Minott, Public Affairs Director for WPFW will moderate this year'sevent.
We are proud to announce that Representative Marcia Fudge(D-OH) will be honored with a Pillar Human Rights Award for InternationalPerson's of Conscience. The Pillar is awarded to notable civil and human rightschampions; previous recipients include Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI), SenatorCharles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO).The Pacifica Foundation will continue its support of whistleblowers and thisevent. The international press has been invited as well.
The event will open with a Whistleblower Assembly at theStewart R. Mott House on Capitol Hill including a symbolic "EmptyChair" welcome honoring courageous whistleblowers who cannot be presentdue to retaliatory imprisonment, untimely death or increased prosecution underthe Obama Administration. The Whistleblower Summit will include workshops andpanel discussions:

Founded over 60 years ago to support Free Speech and FirstAmendment Rights, the Pacifica Foundation has fought for and vigorouslydefended these rights all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. A staunchsupporter of unfettered free speech, the Pacifica National Board votedunanimously to support legislation that would protect Whistleblowers and FreeSpeech in 2010.
Consequently, the Pacifica Radio Network was the firstnational media organization to formalize its support for Whistleblowers. Onceagain, as in previous years, the Pacifica Foundation will actively participateand support this years Whistleblower Summit in Washington, DC. The conferencewill also feature a Whistleblower Book Signing and Film Screening at Busboys& Poets on July 30, 2013 (5:00-9:00 PM).

Michael Stoval, Independent Black Farmer adds, "Blackpeople are losing our heritage and family farms due to continued discriminationand retaliation by USDA. Nothing will change until we eliminate the corruptculture facing Black farmers and Minorities Employees at USDA."
Lawrance Lucas, President of the USDA Coalition of MinorityEmployees states, "We will ask President Obama to promptly intervene andbring the long history of widespread discrimination to an end. We want USDA topofficials held accountable, and the USDA Office of Civil Rights -administrationand process- put into receivership."
Matthew Fogg, National President of Federally EmployedWomen-Legal Education Fund (FEW/LEF) and Vice President of Blacks In Government(BIG) adds "We celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the No FEAR Act in theshadows of Martin Luther King Jr. monument last year. We will stand and tocontinue the fight for civil and human rights at the Whistleblower Summit thisyear."
